Description
Located in the Vaud region of Switzerland, the Grand Chamossaire is a popular paragliding site. The take-off point is at an altitude of 1980 meters and is easily accessible via the Roc d'Orsay gondola. From the top, it's a 20-minute walk to the summit, or in winter, you can take the Bretaye-Grand-Chamossaire chairlift.
The site is regularly used for soaring, and some cross-country (XC) flights are possible. When the wind is from the southwest, you can often catch thermals right away. However, with winds from the south-southeast to southeast, you may need to glide a bit first. For those who prefer less walking, higher altitudes often provide better conditions.
The take-off area is a moderately steep meadow, facing southwest, and is considered easy to launch from. However, be cautious as the wind can often be cross. If the crosswind is too strong, you can take off from one of the corridors to the right or descend to Roc d'Orsay.
Landing options include Marignac and Ollon. For cross-country enthusiasts, potential routes include Diablerets-Gstaad-Interlaken and Leysin.
