Conditions Optimales
Description
Kohe Point offers a unique paragliding experience with an elevation of 183 meters. This site is accessible by hiking or car, though parking is limited. The conditions are ideal for soaring and thermalling, with wind directions ranging from 260° to 350°.
For landing, aim for the reserve next to the Whakatane River, directly in front of the launch area. There are better landing options available toward the south of the reserve. Avoid top landing at the carpark due to severe turbulence, despite the large grassy area. Top landing at the launch site is only recommended for highly skilled pilots.
This site is situated below the VFR (Instrument Approach) to NZWK RWY 27. Pilots must maintain a 1000ft vertical and 1 NM horizontal separation from clouds and stay vigilant for traffic when flying above 1000FT.
To get there, you will need two vehicles, as the walk back to the top is substantial and top-landings at the carpark are too dangerous.
