Description

Hummel - Einsiedeln, Switzerland Elevation: 1335 m Difficulty: Easy Coordinates: 8.77173005, 47.09851518 Hummel is a popular paragliding site located near the Sihlsee, outside the village of Gross. The site offers a straightforward take-off and is regularly used for walk & fly activities. Cross-country flights are possible, especially with NNE winds, making it an ideal spot for Bisensoaring. Top landing is also feasible. Take-off: - Elevation: 1330 m - Orientation: N, NO - Difficulty: Easy - Accessible year-round - No cable car available Access: The starting point is a football field located about 1 km south of the village of Ebenau. From there, follow the path towards Rotmoos and continue steeply through the forest to reach the take-off site. The hike takes approximately 60 minutes. There are two take-off areas: one lower and one upper, both situated on moderately steep meadows and accessible via a forest path. Flight Conditions: The site is ideal for Bisensoaring, and thermals develop throughout the day, especially in front of the Hummel and along the ridge. This makes altitude gains and top landings relatively easy. The Bise wind allows for beautiful flights towards Euthal or in the direction of Weglosen/Hoch Ybrig. Landing: When landing at the designated area by the lake, be cautious of strong headwinds. Attempting to land on the football field has proven challenging for some pilots. If landing on a mowed meadow on the roadside of the sports field, watch out for telephone lines and avoid flying too low over the road due to heavy traffic. Walk and Fly: Starting from Gross at the Sihlsee, it takes about 1 hour to reach the upper take-off site on the Hummel. In favorable conditions, you can take off from the lower site after a 20-minute hike, saving yourself the steeper climb to the upper site. Follow the marked path from the football field along the road to the lower take-off site. If needed, continue through the forest to the upper take-off site, which takes an additional hour.
