The launch sites and wind conditions here are more demanding compared to Ebenalp. However, with the right flight, weather, and wind conditions, and considering your own flying skills, Hohe Kasten can provide a unique flying adventure. The main launch site is located at the southern end of the Kamor Saddle. To reach it, you need to descend from the summit. The direct path is demanding, but a marked hiking trail is available. Be cautious of the trees below the launch site and the often strong winds due to the funnel effect of the saddle. For those planning a flight into the Rhine Valley, an early start is recommended due to the eastern launch orientation. Be prepared for a long and complicated return trip to Brülisau. For flights into the pre-Alpine region, also start early to avoid strong winds at the launch sites in the Kamor Saddle. If the wind is too strong at the upper launch sites, you may need to descend to a lower launch site or wait for the evening thermals. The launch site is not directly on Hohe Kasten but in the Kamor Saddle to the north. The descent from Hohe Kasten can be done via a secured path or a slightly longer marked hiking trail. The launch direction is west on moderately steep meadows, but it is not recommended in strong winds due to the funnel effect. Access to Brülisau is possible by car via Appenzell-Steinegg or Appenzell-Weissbad. By train, travel to Weissbad and then take the Postauto to Brülisau. Parking can be challenging on weekends due to the high number of visitors. The landing site is a large meadow northeast of the cable car in Brülisau (924m). Maintain a safe distance from the cable car lines, and underflying the cables is strictly prohibited.
