Conditions Optimales
Description
The paragliding site in Gstaad, Switzerland, is situated at an elevation of 1900 meters and is considered medium-difficult. This location is frequently used and offers excellent soaring conditions with possibilities for cross-country (XC) flights.
The primary take-off spot is located in a forest clearing and is recommended for experienced pilots. Reliable thermals typically start from 14:00, and it is crucial to launch only when the breeze is coming from the front.

The site features three main take-off points:
1. **West-facing (1870 m)**: This take-off is challenging due to the pre-existing terrain and occasional side winds. It is located directly behind the mountain station.
2. **North-facing (1850 m)**: This is an easier take-off, situated a few minutes north of the mountain station.
3. **East-facing (1930 m)**: Also an easier take-off, located 100 meters south along the ridge from the mountain station. Afternoon flights can be tricky due to potential lee turbulence.
The region is particularly popular for thermal and cross-country flights, especially in spring and summer. Early in the day, thermals are strong, even in winter, but there is a risk of sinking in the afternoons.
A flight over Gstaad, with its iconic Hotel Palace, is highly recommended.
Access to the site is facilitated by a gondola lift from Gstaad to Wispile. The main launch area is a moderately steep meadow within a narrow forest clearing. The area is well-frequented due to its excellent thermal entry points and numerous safe landing options, coupled with mild valley and mountain winds.

The Höhi Wispeli flying area is located southeast of Gstaad and is accessible via a gondola lift. This site is favored for its excellent thermal and cross-country flying conditions, along with a favorable microclimate that includes weak valley and mountain winds.
