Paragliding Hoehi Wispile Nord

Located in the Gstaad region of Switzerland, this paragliding site offers a medium-difficult flying experience at an altitude of 1890 meters. The site is regularly used for soaring and cross-country (XC) flights, with reliable thermals starting from 14:00. Launching is recommended only with a headwind. The main take-off area is a moderately steep meadow within a narrow forest clearing, suitable for experienced pilots. Access is convenient via a gondola lift from Gstaad to Wispile, with a short 5-minute walk to the launch site. The region is renowned for its excellent thermals and cross-country flying opportunities, especially in spring and summer. Flights often traverse the picturesque Saanen and Simmen valleys, extending towards the Bernese Alps or Col du Pillon. Morning thermals are also favorable in winter, though afternoon flights may encounter sink conditions. A flight over Gstaad, featuring the iconic Hotel Palace, is highly recommended. Take-off sites: 1. West (1870 m): Challenging due to the terrain and occasional crosswinds, located directly behind the mountain station. 2. North (1850 m): Easier, a few minutes north of the mountain station. 3. East (1930 m): Easier, 100 meters south along the ridge from the mountain station. Afternoon flights can be tricky due to potential lee turbulence. The Höhi Wispeli flying area, southeast of Gstaad, is accessible via a gondola lift. It is popular for its excellent thermals, numerous landing options, and favorable microclimate with weak valley and mountain winds.
