Description
Located in Austria, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 1540 meters with a height difference of 700 meters. The site is regularly used by paragliders and heavily frequented by hang gliders. It is suitable for soaring, thermal flying, and cross-country flights. However, access is restricted to club members only.
The site record stands at an impressive 188.8 km. For more information, you can visit [Murtalflieger](http://murtalflieger.at/fluggebiete/).
Access to the Hochalm is via a toll road. There are two launch sites: one near the pilgrimage church and another at approximately 1500 meters next to the toll road. Despite the significant altitude difference of nearly 1000 meters, the terrain is easy to fly. Before flying, you must contact the Zeltweg airfield for clearance at Tel: +43(0)50 201 525 4511. If the tower is not manned, clearance is automatically granted.
The entire Hochalm area requires a fee of €4 to open the barrier for access. The hike from the barrier to the middle of Hochalm takes about 1.5 hours, and to the Hochalm church, about 2 hours. Only club members are allowed to fly here. When the Zeltweg airfield is active, flights are limited to 1000 feet above ground level.
The site is ideal for thermal and cross-country flights, and due to its generous launch and landing areas, it is also suitable for training flights. The flying season runs from May to August, from 10:00 to 18:00, and from September to October 14, from 10:00 to 17:00. There is a flight ban from October 15 to April 30.
The toll road fee is €5. For more details, you can contact the site holder, Flugschule Aufwind, at [Aufwind](http://www.aufwind.at).
Access is by car via the toll road. The site is suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders and is an approved training ground. The launch area is a grassy field, suitable for laying out multiple wings, with some minor unevenness. Note that in strong headwinds, it may not be possible to reach the landing area in a glide. However, there are several alternative landing spots along the way. Always contact the Zeltweg tower for flight clearance before taking off.
