The Drachen-Startplatz Rampe is a popular hang gliding launch site located in Bayern, Germany. This site is specifically designed for hang gliders and is not suitable for paragliders due to the lack of space for laying out a wing. The launch is a ramp over a cliff, making it a medium-difficult site to navigate. The site is well-utilized and offers good cross-country flying potential. The launch direction is 200° over a rock face, and the ideal wind conditions for takeoff are from the south to south-southwest at wind speeds up to 15 km/h. In weak wind conditions up to 10 km/h, thermals can override the regional wind, allowing for takeoff in all directions. The landing zone is located south of the village of Winsing on an east-west oriented hill. Pilots are advised to inspect the landing area beforehand, as wind indicators are present. The elevation difference between the launch and landing site is 360 meters, with a distance of 2080 meters. Even hang gliders with lower glide performance can reach the landing zone without issues, provided they exit early enough. The best time to fly here is in the spring when the trees are not yet in full leaf and often in August. Access to the site is via Bauerhof Oberaign, but pilots must walk the final 800 meters from the gate to the setup area. A cart is available to help transport hang gliders to the ramp. Note that the wind readings can be influenced by the local geography, particularly the Zentinger Valley, which can cause inaccuracies in west wind conditions. The site is flyable year-round, but transporting hang gliders can be more challenging in winter due to snow. The ramp has a shallow angle, and pilots must run through the start. The terrain is demanding due to small-scale, unreliable thermals and minimal elevation differences.
