Description
Eggli, located at an altitude of 1580 meters, is a medium-difficulty paragliding site occasionally used for soaring and good cross-country (XC) flights. When the Wispile is closed, Eggli offers a good alternative for catching thermals with south to west winds. Landings are made at the Wispile landing zone.
To reach the take-off point, take the gondola from Gstaad to Eggli. The launch site is a moderately steep alpine meadow. Coordinates for the take-off are 7.26160349, 46.4602404, and it takes about 10 minutes to walk there from the gondola station.
Eggli serves as a low-lying alternative to Höhi Wispile, especially in the morning when low-hanging clouds obscure visibility at neighboring peaks. The site is situated south of Gstaad and is accessible via a gondola lift. It is considered the smaller counterpart to the Höhi Wispile flying area. Due to the modest altitude difference, external landing options are rarely needed. The microclimate typically features weak valley and mountain winds.
Eggli is surrounded by other top paragliding sites and is often used as a fallback or training ground due to its lower altitude differences. Despite the nearly 500-meter altitude difference, a gondola lift is available for ascent.
