Description
This paragliding site in Austria offers an elevation of 2180-2200 meters with a height difference of approximately 1200 meters. It is moderately challenging and regularly used for hike & fly, soaring, and enjoyable flights, especially in autumn. Cross-country flights are also possible here.
The hike to the launch site from Schöneben takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The path is a gentle meadow slope, making it relatively easy to walk. Choose any meadow without obstacles and avoid disturbing livestock. There are multiple launch options available.
The region is known for its thermal flights along the mountain chain or an 8 km glide flight from the summit to St. Peter am Kammersberg in autumn. This site is located on the southern side of the Niedere Tauern, offering scenic flights along the Tauern range towards the east and west, and even over the Tauern into the Ennstal valley. It is a popular spot in autumn and also frequented by hikers. The area is also suitable for light ski tours.
For walk and fly, you can start from the Greimhütte or take a left turn onto a gravel road towards Schöneben. From the Greimhütte, the path is steeper up to the summit. However, it is easier to hike up from Schöneben, which is less steep. The first launch site is just 50 meters in elevation gain, and the next one is after about an hour of hiking. Reaching the summit takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
