Fly Hills in British Columbia, Canada, offers a paragliding experience with a takeoff elevation of 1455 meters and a height difference of 1092 meters. The site is considered medium-easy and is regularly used for thermalling and cross-country flights. You can either hike up or drive up with a 4x4 vehicle. The main takeoff area is frequently used and provides opportunities for thermalling and cross-country flights. The site record is 92.3 km. Fly Hills faces mostly south and is best flown in the late morning. The main landing zone (LZ) is not ideal, as it is full of bushes and surrounded by tall trees. There are three takeoff points overlooking the Salmon River Valley. On good thermic days, you can fly back to Freedom Flight Park in Lumby. Follow the snowmobile signs for about 3 km and turn right on Christionson Rd. Keep left at the fork and follow up to the skidoo parking lot, which is 1 km away. - Luke's Launch is a 150-yard walk due east from the southeast corner of the parking lot. - For Fly Hills Mid Launch, continue up the logging road to 7.5 km, where you'll find another parking lot to the left. Hike half a kilometer to the Fly Hills Mid Launch, which is carpeted. - Fly Hills Upper Launch is located at about 14 km. Keep left at 12.25 km, park at the radio tower, and find the quad trail 50 meters south of the parking lot along the road. Landing: - The field at 6820 30th Ave S.W. Follow Salmon River Rd down to 30th Ave on the right, just before the first river crossing. Follow 30th for 1 km to where the road bends. 6820 30th Ave S.W. is on the left. Comments: - If west winds blow out the Upper (south) launch, the lower (north) launch is usually flyable. Try flying the road; you're sure to find thermals at the two little aspen groves to the south. - For a flight, contact Ken Steiner. - If north or east winds prevail, try ridge soaring from Luke's launch. - The landing field can be seen from Luke's launch. Look northeast for a large boulder the size of a cabin. From there, look directly east to the hay shed roof directly below you. It's the closest building to the hill below you. - A tattered windsock is in the northeast corner of the LZ.
