Description

Located in British Columbia, Canada, this paragliding site offers a unique flying experience with occasional use. The site is known for its thermalling opportunities and the potential for cross-country (XC) flights. The site record stands at 74.7 km. For more information, you can contact the British Columbia Paragliding and Hang Gliding Association: [Contact BCHPA](http://www.bchpa.ca/contact-us.html). The local club associated with this site is FlyOK: [FlyOK](http://flyok.ca). Takeoff is situated at about 4300 feet above sea level (ASL) and is accessible via the Fly Hills logging road, west of town. To reach the takeoff point, turn west off Highway #1 onto Salmon River Road, follow the skidoo recreation signs, and continue on Christionson Road. The takeoff area is newly cleared as of fall 2012 and is located around the 14 km marker on the logging road. There are multiple launch points, including Luke's launch and the Fly Hills north and south launches. Landing is at 6820 30th Ave S.W., approximately 1100 feet ASL (322m). To get there, continue on Salmon River Road past Christionson Road for about 2 km, then turn right onto 30th Ave just before the first river crossing. The landing zone (LZ) is in the field south of a log house with a green tin roof, marked by a windsock in the northeast corner. Weather conditions to watch for include upper winds from the west/northwest, which can create rotor over the trees at Fly Hills South launch. Always check your ribbons for wind direction. For those launching from Luke's launch, look northeast for a large boulder the size of a small cabin to locate the launch area. The hayshed roof between the trees and the road serves as a marker for the LZ, which is south of the shed. Thermals are generally good in front of Fly Hills north launch, and following the road to the two small aspen groves between 5 and 6 km can be rewarding. Valley winds typically head up the valley, so approaching the LZ from the south or southwest is common. For more detailed information, visit [FlyOK](http://flyok.ca).
