The terrain above Fanas is interesting and becomes thermally active early in the year once the snow on the southern slopes has melted. You can reach the launch site by taking a cable car from Fanas, which takes about 10 minutes from the mountain station. Note that the cable car has limited capacity, so it's advisable to book in advance. The ride costs 16 Swiss Francs (as of January 2011). The launch site is located above the mountain station and faces south, but in winter, launches are often made from the ridge facing north. Landing is in the valley floor, where a windsock is available. For those who enjoy Walk & Fly, you can hike further up to the Sasauna summit for additional elevation gain. Fanas is a relatively sheltered and scenic flying area, located at the entrance to Prättigau.
