Conditions Optimales
Description
The launch site at 1100-1130 meters is occasionally used for soaring and cross-country (XC) flights. There is a cable car available, but detailed information about it is somewhat elusive, as there seem to be multiple options, including one that goes higher up.
A visit to Diegisbalm is worthwhile when the neighboring Büelen site isn't providing enough lift, is too crowded, has challenging wind conditions, or simply if you want an additional 500 meters of altitude.
The private cable car from Wolfenschiessen Nechimatt-Diegisbalm-Oberalp has been modernized with new cabins, a new drive system, and new controls. It now operates on a card system, allowing passengers to use it whenever they want without the need for staff. This convenience has attracted more bikers and paragliders to the area.
The launch sites here are excellent starting points for flights over the Brünig Pass, as well as to Haldigrat, Büelen, Brändlen, and other destinations.
Be cautious of cables: The Engelberg Valley holds the unfortunate record for the most unnecessary cable installations in Switzerland. Specifically, if you plan to land near the cable car, watch out for a new, unmarked milk transport cable located about 150 meters east of the cable car. This cable is poorly visible and runs almost parallel to the cable car towards the valley center.
The area, like Büelen, is relatively protected from the Föhn wind.
