Description

The Weissfluhjoch area in Davos, Switzerland, offers several paragliding opportunities, though it is not frequently used. Some cross-country (XC) flights are possible. There are multiple take-off points nearby and numerous hike & fly options within a 2.5 km radius. The best take-off spot at Weissfluhjoch is slightly below the funicular station, next to the Parsenn Rapid chairlift. The valley basin from Weissfluhjoch towards Davos should only be flown in weak wind conditions due to potential lee-side turbulence. Weissfluhgipfel, at 2820 meters, is the highest and most exposed launch site in the Davos region. The panoramic view of the Grisons Alps alone makes the trip worthwhile. Enthusiasts of high-altitude flights can soar from Weissfluhgipfel past Gotschnagrat to Klosters or even Küblis. However, there are also rewarding launch sites for those who don't go all the way to the top. The mid-station Höhenweg of the Parsennbahn offers an ideal launch site, providing thermal updrafts as early as 9:00 AM in winter. However, this site often experiences downdrafts in the afternoon due to valley winds. From this launch site, you have several flight options: towards Küblis (if altitude permits), gliding to Klosters, gliding to Davos, or climbing above the inversion layer for cross-country flights. The terrain is alpine and challenging, requiring pilots to reliably assess conditions themselves. Weather briefings are crucial, and flying during Föhn winds is not recommended. The flight from Höhenweg is relatively simple and often used for training. There are ample landing spots in Davos. For more information on the Parsennbahn cable car, visit [Parsennbahn](http://www.parsenn.ch). For pilot meet-ups, check out Hangar (Luftchraft Flight School, [Luftchraft](http://www.luftchraft.ch)) or Bolgenplaza (near the summer landing site). **Weissfluhgipfel North Launch Site** - Direction: N, NE, NW - Difficulty: Easy - Altitude: 2820 m - Accessible in both summer and winter, the launch site is a 5-minute walk from the mountain station, past the restaurant and along the ski slope to the windsock. Suitable for dynamic soaring with enough north wind. The flight route typically passes Gotschnagrat, landing in Klosters after a significant altitude drop of 1630 m. **Weissfluhgipfel South Launch Site** - Direction: SE, S, SW - Difficulty: Hard - Altitude: 2820 m - Located between the cable car station and the Weissfluhgipfel restaurant, this unofficial launch site is challenging due to its narrow tolerance and rocky terrain. Suitable for experienced pilots only. In calm conditions, a glide flight to the Bolgen landing site in Davos (5.5 km away) is possible. **Höhenweg Launch Site** - Direction: NE, E, SE, S - Difficulty: Easy - Altitude: 2220 m - Located about 150 m north of the Parsennbahn mid-station, this site is accessible in both summer and winter. The favorable wind direction is NE-S. The launch site is on a moderately steep grassy slope. For more details, visit the [Parsennbahn](http://www.parsenn.ch) and [Luftchraft](http://www.luftchraft.ch) websites.
