Description
Located in the stunning region of Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 2250 meters with a height difference of 1090 meters. It's an alternative takeoff spot, suitable for walk-and-fly enthusiasts and is regularly used for cross-country (XC) flights. The site is particularly good for autumn flights.
The flying season runs from June 1st to the end of October. The terrain is also excellent for hang gliders, with a height difference of 928 meters to overcome. The takeoff is a narrow clearing, and for hang gliders, it's crucial to repack only after clearing the trees.
For those interested in Ski and Fly, there's an upper takeoff point 300 meters higher, but it's only suitable for east and south winds. The start is right next to a hut by the ski slope. The lift and ski area operators tolerate flying activities. Winter flights have been recorded in the seasons of 2005/06 and 2006/07. Landing is possible almost anywhere in the valley meadows or halfway down near a hut, specifically for paragliders.
In winter, you can access the takeoff via the Rumerlo ski lift (2 sections) without skis. There is a parking area available, but it's advisable to arrive early.
Soaring is possible halfway up in front of the war monument at Pocol, which is a tower easily visible from the takeoff point. The south valley wind hits the slope nicely there, and if the wind dies down, you can easily land in the meadows below.
For accommodation, there are two campsites by the river. The landing place is nearby.
