Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in the Piemonte region, Torino province, in the municipality of Ceres, this paragliding site offers an easy takeoff at an altitude of 1,645 meters. The site is rarely used and is ideal for hike & fly and panoramic flights.
The takeoff area, Menulla, is at 1,600 meters above sea level. It features a grassy terrain ending on a ridge, allowing for the simultaneous launch of 8-10 gliders. The slope is 30%, and the prevailing winds are from the south and southwest, with valley breezes. Note that flying is not recommended with north winds. During summer afternoons, the breeze from the opposite side prevails, allowing ridge soaring and landing at the Menulla field.
To reach the takeoff point, head from Torino towards Lanzo, then follow signs to Ceres. At the only traffic light, turn right. Upon reaching Fraz. Fè, turn right towards Cernesio. Continue straight at the first junction and proceed on the dirt road to the ridge (Passo della Croce – Chiaves). Descend to the provincial road from Chiaves, turn left towards Sistina, and continue on the asphalt road to the mountain ridge towards Ceres. The takeoff is 20 meters from the next turn.
Landing options include:
1. **Ponti (Ceres)**: An easy landing site at 600 meters altitude. The field is 60 meters wide and 200 meters long, flat agricultural land with a single obstacle—a line at the end of the field. Avoid landing during the hay-cutting period. To reach it, from Pessinetto, turn left towards Ceres at Fraz. Fè, continue to the bottom of the descent before the bridge, turn right, and after about 1 km, the landing field begins near a rural house on the left.
2. **Cantoira**: A medium-difficulty landing site at 740 meters altitude. The field is 40 meters wide and 100 meters long, flat agricultural land with a line a few meters before the field. To reach it, continue from the first landing site to the provincial road, cross almost the entire town, find a fuel station, and take the road on the left that descends to a parking area. Follow the Stura river for about 100 meters downstream towards Ceres.
The best flying conditions are with winds from the south and southwest. Avoid flying with north winds. Thermals can be found in front of the takeoff, offering good dynamic flying and potential cross-country flights, such as towards S. Elisabetta with landing in Cavallaria or towards Val Grande and Forno Alpi Graie.
