Description
Morro de Toix, Spain
Elevation: 237 meters
Flight Distance: 1,300 - 15,000 meters
This site is frequently used for coastal soaring and cross-country (XC) flights. The main launch area offers stunning views of the Mediterranean, soaring over the cliffs of Morro de Toix and the last mountains of the Sierra de Bernia. Exercise caution near the Mascarat tunnels. Avoid landing on the beach during high season or if you don't have enough altitude; instead, land at the Campomanes Nautical Club area.
Takeoff: The takeoff is challenging due to its steep incline. Pilots must be ready to fly immediately after lifting the wing. Ideal wind conditions for takeoff are between 15 and 20 km/h. If the wind is too weak, you won't see seagulls at the takeoff point.
Top Landing: Not recommended due to the steep slope.
Flight: This is primarily an afternoon flight with breathtaking views. Behind the takeoff, you can see Calpe with its impressive rock, and in front, you can spot Benidorm with its towering skyscrapers. This site requires experienced pilots due to variable wind speeds. If the wind increases and you see whitecaps, head to the landing zone immediately. If the wind decreases and you start descending, land immediately to avoid ending up in the water. Pay special attention if the wind shifts to the west, as it becomes difficult to reach the landing zone.
Landing: Mascarat Beach (not during high season) or Campomanes Nautical Club.
How to Get There: From Calpe, head towards Marracat-Toix. Before descending towards the tunnels, turn left into the Mar y Villa urbanization and follow signs to Mirador Morro de Toix. Park your car at the chain barrier and walk for 5 minutes to enjoy incredible views. Alternatively, from Marracat-Toix, after passing the tunnels, turn right into the Mar y Villa urbanization and follow the same directions.
Local pilots often fly a spectacular round trip to Bernia.
Important: There is a bulletin board at the takeoff point advising visiting pilots not to fly this site alone due to its hazards. Always get a local briefing to avoid risks. Respect the local community and do not endanger yourself or others.
