Description
The launch site in Engelberg, Switzerland, is situated at an altitude of 1880-1980 meters. This location is frequently used for soaring, and cross-country flights are possible. Even with weak thermals, you can start from a higher altitude. The landscape is stunning, but be cautious of controlled airspace (CTR); always check if they are active by calling ahead. Additionally, watch out for cables in the Engelberg Valley.
In Engelberg, the cable car takes you up to Brunni. From there, a chairlift leads to the Brunnihütte. The southwest launch site is directly west of the Brunnihütte. You can reach the south launch site on foot, which is a few meters above the Brunnihütte. The lowest southwest-facing launch site is visible from the chairlift on the right-hand side. The main landing area is in the town, with another landing spot near the local paragliding school next to the campsite.
The take-off area is a large, nicely sloped field with a windsock. Advanced pilots often walk up to the steeper part of the slope for an earlier take-off. Thermals are usually found over the trees slightly to the left of the launch.
Coordinates for Brunnihütte take-off: 46.8426 N, 8.41008 E, at 1860 meters.
Coordinates for Schonegg take-off: 46.8435 N, 8.41665 E, at 2080 meters.
