Bridgend Paragliding Site Site Status: Open Location Info: - Grid Reference: NT 232222 - OS Landranger: 73; Peebles, Galashiels, and Selkirk - Latitude: 55.48760 - Longitude: -3.21640 Wind: - Direction: NNE, NE, E (30 - 90 degrees) - Best Direction: NE Height: - Above Sea Level: 1595ft (486m) - Top to Bottom: 775ft (236m) Road Access: - Via A708 Selkirk to Moffat road through St Marys Loch Parking: - Grid Reference: NT240225 - Park at the roadside near the bridge over Megget Water, ensuring not to block the gate. Be cautious as the road is popular with motorbikes, and parking should not obstruct visibility on bends. Take-Off: - Grid Reference: NT 234222 - Take-off location depends on wind direction. Access through the gate west of Megget Water, follow the old road alongside the wood plantation, then take the track up along the edge of the plantation to the hill. Follow the obvious quad track up the hill to the take-off point. Landing: - Grid Reference: NT 241224 - Triangular field on the shores of St Marys Loch, south of Megget Water. Flying: - Excellent in sea breeze conditions. Valley/sea breeze convergence may occur over St Marys Loch in front of the hill. Requires 10 - 18mph winds for dynamic lift. Hazards: - Check NOTAM and CANP, especially if flying mid-week, as the area is used for low-flying military jet exercises. Jets often fly below the level of the hill. - Power lines are present on the upper side of the road between the take-off and landing field. - The north face towards Megget Dam can be turbulent if the wind is off. - Midges in the landing field can be problematic during June, July, and August. Notes: - Do not land in fields with stock or grass being grown for hay or silage. - Avoid using the site during the lambing season (late March to late May). - This is a sensitive site; please contact Wingbeat or the landowner before flying.
