Description

Brace Mountain, located in the USA, offers a fantastic paragliding experience with an altitude of 2,300 feet MSL and 1,600 feet AGL. The launch site is spacious and open, providing a smooth takeoff, especially favorable for beginners in the morning and afternoon. Advanced pilots will find excellent XC potential here. The ideal wind direction ranges from WNW to WSW (250-290°), with possible directions from 230-310°. The best wind strength is 8-10 mph, though flying is possible with winds from 0-15 mph. Note that flying is prohibited when winds exceed 26 mph, and radical speed wings or intentional proximity flying are not allowed. Access to the launch site can be achieved via two routes: a 30-minute drive followed by a 35-minute hike through the woods, or a more strenuous 60-90 minute hike up the mountain face. Pilots must sign in at the Mt Brace Outdoor Club LZ and notify the Park Ranger before the first flight of the day. Detailed site rules can be found at [Mt Brace Club Rules](https://mtbraceclub.com/rules) and [P2/H2 and Guest Flying](https://mtbraceclub.com/p2-h2-and-guest-flying). The launch area is grassy with some rocks, surrounded by bushes and low trees. It is top-landable, though with the usual risks. On stable blue days, good XC flying is possible, and occasionally, conditions allow for spectacular flights with working cumulus clouds, making 100k+ flights achievable. West Rutland, VT, another notable site, features a covered metal ramp launch type. The flyable wind direction is SW (235 to 245). Pilots need an H3/P3 rating or better to launch. H2/P2 rated pilots may launch if supervised by an official USHPA observer or an H4/P4 or higher-rated pilot with prior permission.
