Description

This coastal paragliding site in the UK offers stunning views and a magnificent takeoff from a steep, high cliff. It is regularly used for coastal soaring and provides easy access with a 24 km out-and-return flight path. The site record is 13.3 km. For directions, follow signs through Beer to Beer Head and park in the public pay-and-display car park below the Caravan Park. This is the only designated parking area. From the car park, walk up the hill, turn left at the fork, and cross the cattle grid into the field. Hang glider pilots can drive to drop off their gliders but must park in the car park afterward. When flying, assess the true wind direction due to the bowl effect from the cliffs. Gain height before going around the stack to the west and clear the area in front of takeoff quickly. Rigging should be done at the top of the slope, and after top landing, paragliders should be bunched and returned to the top. Communication between hang glider and paraglider pilots is essential to avoid conflicts. Ground-handling or kiting should be done off to the side, not in front of takeoff. For paragliders, the bottom landing is directly below on the beach at the bottom of the cliff path. Hang gliders should land at Branscombe Mouth for easy retrieval access. Avoid landing on the grass in front of the café when it is open. Top landing is in the large takeoff field. Do not fly behind the stack to the right of takeoff due to rotor. Assess the wind direction when landing and avoid startling animals in nearby fields. The site offers excellent XC potential with long coastal runs available to Sidmouth and back. However, be cautious of hazards such as soaring too close to and below the cliff edge, wind conditions around Beer Head, and animals on the takeoff field. Clear cattle slowly to avoid startling them, and be mindful of horses and riders on the coastal path. For more information, visit [DS Condors](https://www.dscondors.co.uk/cms/node/136).
