Description
Barton Fell, located in the NE Lakes near Ullswater in Cumbria, UK, offers a variety of paragliding opportunities. The site features a long ridge running down the southeast side of Ullswater, with excellent slopes and gentle ground over the back, making it suitable for both soaring and cross-country (XC) flights. Pilots can potentially fly southbound to Kendal, among other destinations.
The site has multiple takeoff options and is regularly used by paragliders. However, there are specific guidelines to follow, especially during the summer school holidays when pony trekking and horse riding activities are at their peak. To avoid incidents, pilots are advised not to overfly or land in the area between Aik Beck and the car park before 1700 hours from Easter to the end of October. Additionally, pilots should avoid landing below the fell wall in the farmed fields to respect local agreements.
The wind conditions suitable for this site range from WNW to NNW. The site is at an altitude of 1860 feet (567 meters) above mean sea level, with a top-to-bottom height of 890 feet (271 meters).
