Best Conditions
Description
At an elevation of 1110 meters, this site is regularly used and offers good thermal soaring conditions, making it suitable for cross-country flights. There are several takeoff alternatives, but this one is considered the best.
The site features a south-southeast facing ridge that stretches approximately 3.5 km. The map reference is NP-600075. You can drive to Bånsetra, located southwest of Fåvang, both in summer and winter (toll road). In summer, there is a trail to the top, taking about 25 minutes. In winter, a machine-groomed track is available. There are many alternative landing spots.
For a summer alternative, you can drive to Skeikampen and continue on Torsdalsvegen (toll road, 40 NOK) as far as possible. From there, it's about a 30-minute walk on a good trail with minimal elevation gain. There are many places to start and land, all above the tree line. Refer to the map for parking (P) and possible start locations (S).
