To reach the launch site, take the cable car to Engstligenalp at the end of the Engstligental valley. From there, follow the signs towards Engstligengrat. The launch site is a large, moderately steep meadow next to a barn.
This area is less frequented, especially in summer, offering an alternative to 'Schwandfeldspitz,' the second flying mountain of Adelboden. Due to the orientation of the flying area, soaring and gliding flights to Adelboden are more common. Cross-country flights are generally not initiated from Engstligenalp.
Engstligenalp is the largest high plateau in the western Swiss Alps, located south of Adelboden at an altitude of 1900 - 2000 m. Since 1996, it has been recognized as a cultural landscape of national importance.
The plateau is bordered to the north by the Fitzer (2458m), to the west by the Ammertenspitz, and to the southwest by the dominant Wildstrubel (3240m). To the east, it connects to Steghorn, Tierhörnli, Chindbettihorn, Engstligengrat, and Tschingellochtighorn. The Ärtelengrat forms the northeastern boundary towards Alp Hinterengstligen.
The valley floor is an oval shape, extending 1 km north-south and 2 km east-west, consisting of flat alpine pasture.
Access from the north is via a mule track blasted into the rock face next to the 600 m high Engstligen Falls.
