Parapente Arran Brownhead

Brownhead is located on the A841 south of Blackwaterfoot. Parking is available in a lay-by at grid reference NR 901 263. The takeoff point is 20 meters from the side of the road on the shore side. The site features a streamer close to the takeoff area. It is a low, coastal site that can handle strong winds and offers 3 kilometers of coast to soar. Pilots can work their way up the hill behind and to the left of the takeoff point (Cnocan Donn, 219 meters) and from there, fly cross-country (XC). Top landing is straightforward in the takeoff area and to the right of the takeoff. While bottom landing is possible, it is not recommended due to the rocky shore and numerous brambles. There are no access issues at this site. The primary hazard is the power lines behind the road along the coast. In lighter winds, pilots can walk up the back hill and take off in front of the trig point at grid reference NR 911 248. The easiest route up this hill is to follow the tree line.
