Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert Type: Ocean Water type: Shallow, Flat, Chop, Small wave, Medium wave Water hazards: Swimmers, Currents, Ships, Shells Water quality: Cloudy Infos: Choppy North Sea, remarkable difference between high and low tide, there can be a lot of current with high tide. In between high and low tide you have flat water and you come full speed in to the waves (max 4 m waves). The waves are there but it isn't a swell. Beach type & size: Sand - Tidal Infos: Nice big soft white sanded beach, in summer it can be crowded but then we surf at the sail club. At some places you can have some shells. Very good space too launch and land your kite but in summertime I wouldn't recommend it to learn because of the crowded beach with a lot of curious people (and kids). Identified hazards: Shells Beachgoer: July, August Weather specificities: Water is max 23C in hot summer until 3C in cold winter. In summer air temp can be 30C in winter -10C. North and East winds feel colder. A wetsuit is a must in winter, spring and fall. A shorty can do it in summer, maybe even shorts and a lycra. Wind type: Frontal Wind specificities: Depression winds, in hot summer sometimes thermal sea breezes. In good months we can go 15 times, 1 out of 2 days, bad months 1 out of 10 days. A lot of the time we kite with big gear but when there are depressions it can be really nuking. Usual and best direction: sideshore WSW. Other good directions are W, WNW, NE. Best months: May, June, July, August, September, October Access description: by Car, Bus, Train - E40, Jabbeke, De Haan, beach with big parking. There is a coast train you can use to reach several spots in Belgium. Specific rules: Zones, Time Extra: In summer you have a swimmer area so you have to kite at the sail club. Nightlife: In De Haan we have a bar called De Torre, good fun and not to far from the beach, next to the tram station in the town center.
