Description
Agios Ioannis, a beach near the island's capital, boasts pristine waters and is often windy, making it a hotspot for water sports. This beach is easily accessible, with ample free parking and is a segment of the expansive 10km-long Gyra beach. Named after the ancient St. John’s chapel nearby, the location offers limited sunbeds and umbrellas. However, visitors have various cafes and restaurants at their disposal and can admire several windmills in the vicinity. Though the beach has a sandy stretch, swimmers should be wary of white rocks in the shallows. Additionally, after crossing the swing bridge from the mainland and heading towards the windmills, enthusiasts will find the island's kite spot. While this area has milder wind conditions compared to Vassiliki, it becomes a viable alternative for windsurfing when Vassiliki's thermals diminish. Notably, with kiting banned in Vassiliki, Agios Ioannis, also known as 'Milos Beach', stands as Lefkada's sole kitesurfing destination.
