There is no designated main landing area, but there are approximately 5000 decares of various fields at Selsvollene available for landing. Alternatively, you can fly to Otta and land at the sports field, which is 4.2 km away in a straight line. However, you will likely need to follow the valley, requiring a glide ratio of 7.5 with a 100-meter altitude surplus for a safe landing in calm air. There are many landing opportunities along the way. Starting in a northerly wind should not pose significant problems. The launch site is a walk of about 1.2 km and approximately 150 meters in elevation from the road. The easiest way to reach it is through the residential area at Dahle, about 2 km west of Otta. Note that the road is gated, so bring cash (40 NOK) for the toll. Follow the signs to Haldorpiggen after reaching the flat area at the top next to a large field, just past the high-voltage power lines. In good northeast conditions, it should be possible to soar there. There is also a south launch about 900 meters southeast of Haldorpiggen, but it requires 3-4 m/s wind from the south/southeast to start. The rocky and uneven terrain is not ideal for running. The launch area is wide and free of obstacles, making it suitable for all skill levels. However, the gentle slope can pose a challenge in strong winds, especially with a westerly component. In such conditions, head well out into the valley and follow the riverbed below, or move to the right to take advantage of the ridge lift. Landing is not an issue, though it may require a longer walk afterward. This site is an excellent starting point for both distance flying and local flights. Turn right onto Åsårlivegen and continue for 7.6 km until you see a trail branching off to the right. From there, it's about a 90-meter climb in elevation and 750 meters to the top. The designated landing area is at the sports field in Otta, 5 km away, with additional landing options along the route. The site allows for launches in various wind directions. However, in southern winds, conditions need to be almost calm to avoid difficulties with tree clearance. In eastern winds, be cautious of wind strength as you will need to navigate through a narrow valley that can generate turbulence. The parking lot area serves as the hang gliding (HG) launch, but paragliders (PG) can also start here. A bit further to the left is the dedicated PG launch, which can also be used by HG pilots. The landing zone at the national center is situated in a small funnel, making it somewhat challenging when valley winds pick up. If the wind increases, observe the river and avoid flying over it during your approach in high winds. In strong westerly conditions, consider landing closer to the center at Lalm or top landing to avoid the funnel effect. It's a good idea to discuss these conditions with local pilots. This site offers excellent opportunities for ridge soaring, thermal soaring, and thermals, making it suitable for both local flights and long-distance XC flights.
