Flysted ved Eikeren, drevet av Hof Paragliderklubb, er vestvendt med en høydeforskjell på ca. 300 meter. Dette stedet er egnet for PP2-piloter, og alle er velkomne til å fly her. Located in Buskerud, Norway, this paragliding site offers a takeoff at 347 meters above sea level. It's a regularly used spot, ideal for thermal soaring, with the potential for small cross-country flights. The airspace height ceiling is set at 1372 meters. The site is suitable for pilots with PP2/SP2 certification. Directions: If you're coming from Drammen on the E134, follow these steps: - To reach the landing zone, exit at Mjøndalen and navigate through the roundabouts, following signs towards Gulskogen on Riksvei 28. After 1 km, turn right onto Kristoffer Ryghs vei and drive down the gravel road that splits the fields. Turn left when you reach the farm and park at the end near the gravel pit. Avoid parking around the farm buildings. - To reach the takeoff, drive back towards Mjøndalen on Riksvei 36, Orkidéhøgda for 4 km. Before the hilltop, turn left onto Ryghseterveien/Solsetra, a small gravel road with a 20 NOK toll. Continue for a few hundred meters and park. The road to the northeast takeoff is gated, requiring a 15-20 minute walk. Follow the road, keeping left at the cabin, and after 700 meters, take a sharp left onto a path for the final hundred meters. Hang glider pilots can drive all the way in with a 4WD. Takeoff: The takeoff area has a grass surface, measuring 30 meters long and 15 meters wide, allowing multiple pilots to prepare their equipment simultaneously. The launch is relatively flat up to the ramp, with the center slightly elevated. Trees on both sides create a corridor, restricting the wind direction to northeast to east. After takeoff, there is ample clearance from the terrain, with only small trees and shrubs in a large depression. In the Air: If conditions are suitable for ridge soaring, you can fly towards Hviteberget to the left after takeoff or along Konnerudhenget if the wind is more northerly. In thermal conditions, the fields can generate large, smooth thermals. Watch the river for signs of sea breeze. Landing: The designated landing area is to the left of the takeoff near Gevelt gravel pit. Large fields are divided by a long gravel road. Paragliders must land on this gravel road, not in the fields during the growing season. Hang gliders have a separate agreement. A wind marker is located on the gravel road near the house. The gravel pit can cause some turbulence if the sea breeze is strong. Airspace and Height Restrictions: - The takeoff is at 344 meters above sea level. - The height limit (Hokksund B) is 1372 meters (4500 feet) over Sølfastøya towards Drammen, decreasing to 914 meters in a nearly straight north-south line. Hokksund A starts in Hokksund. - Ryghåsen is not typically a site where extra height is granted due to its poor starting point for long distances. However, for flights in Hokksund A and B, you must report your usage. Send a message before and after your flight to manage this. - The airspace boxes are opened by selected individuals in DROP and should not be opened by others. When the boxes are open, it will be announced via our SMS service, so make sure to subscribe. - Always have your radio on the NAK frequency (154.175) and be reachable by mobile if you plan to use extra height. - The boxes are only opened for pilots intending to fly long distances. Bergerbakken, located northeast of Hvittingfoss center, is primarily used for short glides during winter. The takeoff height is approximately 270 meters. Most flight logs are from the upper takeoff, not from this location. The site faces southeast and south. If you start from the top, you can land at the main landing area, Grøtterud. Be cautious not to land in the field at the bottom of Bergerbakken, as it is actively farmed, and the farmer is not pleased if landings occur in unharvested crops. This site is occasionally used for soaring with an airspace height ceiling of 1070 meters. It is important to follow local rules. Please note that as of April 2004, this is not an official flying site, and there are no agreements with the landowner for either landing or takeoff. Directions: - From the north (RV40 from Kongsberg): Turn left towards Bjerknes right after Stiltre timber yard and follow the road for about 4 km. - From the south (from Hvittingfoss): Turn towards Bjerknes just before the bridge over Lågen near Efteløt church and follow the road for about 5 km. The gravel road to the takeoff point has GPS coordinates N59 35 17.6 E9 48 14.9. Follow this road for approximately 400 meters and pay a toll of 25 NOK. Continue on the road to the left until you reach the top. The takeoff area is located in a logging field on the downside of the road. Takeoff requires sufficient wind for a reverse launch with good canopy control. There are some tall trees at the end of the field which can be problematic if you launch too low, but the field is large enough for a controlled landing if necessary. The start can be turbulent with a strong northern wind component. There is a west-facing sandpit below with good potential for thermals and ridge soaring. This small valley is known as "Daudalen" for unknown reasons. The local hunting team refers to the takeoff spot as 'the crematorium.' There are no designated landing areas, which can be problematic during the grain season. There is a field across the road where sheep usually graze, and landing there might be possible with prior agreement from the farmer. Height limitation in the area is 1070 meters. Hvittingfoss, Norway Elevation: 421 meters Height Difference: 350 meters This site is regularly used and offers nice soaring conditions. Good cross-country (XC) flights are possible, but be aware of the airspace above. Parking is available at the takeoff area. Region: Hvittingfoss, Norway Site Record: 117.3 km Takeoff: The takeoff direction is south (S). The height difference is 350 meters. The landing area is on the right side when driving from Hvittingfoss towards Kongsberg, approximately 1 km after Hvittingfoss center. The road goes almost to the top, with only a 10-minute walk to the start. There is a start fee of NOK 40 per pilot per day to cover some of the road and site rental costs. The site is suitable for takeoff in southeast (SE), south (S), and southwest (SW) winds. If the wind is too easterly or westerly and strong, conditions can become turbulent in front of the start. Landing: The landing area is a grass field/parking lot below the start, next to the road. The landing can be turbulent, both thermally and mechanically. The degree of turbulence varies from smooth to challenging depending on the weather and wind. Be cautious of mechanical turbulence in strong winds as the landing area is surrounded by some forest. In high winds, it is advisable to keep a good distance from the forest and land more towards the middle of the field, possibly with ears in. There are usually two to three wind socks at the landing; if these vary significantly, it indicates turbulence. This site is suitable for PP2 pilots and is frequently used for soaring. Directions: If you're coming from Drammen on the E134: To reach the landing area, take the exit at Mjøndalen and drive through the roundabouts, following the signs towards Gulskogen on Riksvei 28. Continue for 1 km until you turn right onto Kristoffer Ryghs vei (large field). Drive down the gravel road that divides the fields, turn left when you reach the farm, and park at the end near the gravel pit. Do not park around the farm buildings. To reach the launch site, drive back towards Mjøndalen up Riksvei 36, Orkidéhøgda for 4 km. Before the top of the hill, turn left onto Ryghseterveien/Solsetra, a small gravel road with a toll booth (20 NOK). Continue a few hundred meters and park. The road up to the NW launch is blocked by a barrier, and it takes 15-20 minutes to walk in. Follow the path; it's easy with a paraglider, but a hassle with a hang glider. Launch: The launch area is small and narrow but adequate for a wing. You should have at least 1 m/s headwind. The surface is partly grass, but there are some small shrubs and twigs at the back that can snag lines. This is also a popular spot for hikers, and there may be remnants of a campfire in the middle of the launch area. Watch out for possible embers in the ashes. There is no cliff, but a small ledge at the end after a gentle, short runway. Trees on both sides make it relatively narrow, but tandem launches are possible in good conditions with at least a couple of m/s headwind. Avoid launching in no wind, as you only have 10 meters to run, and you need to get the wing up to minimum speed before the edge. Launching in tailwind is hopeless, even if barely noticeable. Check the river for wind direction; if the sea breeze has arrived, you might be in the lee of the east wind. If you fly out into it, you will be low over the trees after launch and may have trouble reaching the landing area. You can barely see the end of the landing area from the launch, but it is impossible to miss in the air. In the Air: Generally, it works to stay near the launch without drifting too far left. The terrain here is not very steep, and it requires some wind to soar. If it's soarable, you can easily fly towards the NE launch (to the right). On very good days, you can continue on thermal lift all the way down to Drammen or Sande. Note that the altitude limit drops to 914 m when you are near Sølfastøya. If you try to fly down the Konnerud ridge, there are plenty of fields for emergency landings. There are no obvious emergency landing spots if you fly into the lee/rotor. There is a small field on the near side of the E134, but it is crossed by high-voltage lines, and the houses on the slope are very close together. Do not fly behind the launch without very good altitude. There are no good landing areas here, except for Hagatjern in winter if the ice is solid. Landing: Large fields divided by a long gravel road. Paragliders MUST land on this road, not in the fields during the growing season. Hang gliders have a separate agreement. A wind marker is on the gravel road near the house. The gravel pit is a thermal trigger and can also create some turbulence if the sea breeze comes in while you are in the air. Directly out from the launch, you will see the road you drove up and an industrial area with several shops. There is a green area here where it is okay to land. On the way there, you will fly over a landfill, which is crossed by a high-voltage line. Airspace Boxes and Altitude Limitations: The launch is at 325 m above sea level. The altitude limit (Hokksund B) is 1372 m (4500 feet) over Sølfastøya towards Drammen. In a nearly straight N-S line, this drops to 914 m. Hokksund A begins in Hokksund. Ryghåsen is not typically a place where extra altitude is granted, as it is not a good starting point for long distances, but for flying in Hokksund A and B, you MUST report when you use it. Elevation: 573 meters This site in Norway is occasionally used for paragliding. It offers soaring opportunities and the potential for small cross-country flights. The site record is 11.4 km. The takeoff is suitable for winds from the north. Negotiations between the landowners and HLSK ended on May 16, 2002, without an agreement on the use of the site. HLSK no longer has the authority to enforce a flying ban here and refers to the Outdoor Recreation Act for guidance. You can refer to the Outdoor Recreation Act. Directions: Drive to Hvittingfoss and continue towards Kongsberg for about 7 km. Just after Komnes Church, turn left over Lågen via a narrow suspension bridge (signposted Hvål). Turn right towards Passebekk for about 3 km. At the Omholtfjell sign, turn left. Follow the road uphill until you reach a cattle grid. From here, you can see the top of Rudskollen straight ahead to the left. At the top, there is a streamer, which you might be able to see with binoculars from the cattle grid. About 100 meters further, a forest road branches off to the left. Cars can be parked along the main road, but not on the forest road as it is private. The forest road is closed with a gate. Follow this forest road uphill. When the road splits, take the left path. Continue left onto a smaller road. After 700 meters, the road ends, and a trail leads up the slope. The trail splits; the left path leads to the northwest start, and the right path (straight ahead) leads to the north-northeast start (Brudeberget). There are four takeoff options: 1. Top of Rudskollen: West-Northwest 2. North Start: Facing slightly towards the valley, North 3. and 4. Brudeberget: North-Northeast Hang gliders can start from Rudskollen North when the wind is at least 4-5 m/s. It is not recommended to start in calm winds due to vegetation below the takeoff. Brudeberget is a good start for hang gliders but can be tricky to reach through the forest. A kind farmer has allowed landings on his fields. There are two fields on each side of the main road about 100 meters before the turn-off to Skrim. Coordinates: N:59 30 19 E:9 50 35. An old paragliding site rediscovered. After Efteløt, towards Kongsberg, turn towards Heistadmoen, then take the first left. Follow Åsveien (40kr) up to Lindumsetra (approximately 7km) and park just after Setra. Walk about 600m east to the launch site. The area is open with rocky terrain and an old hang gliding ramp. There are many possible landing spots below, but you should contact the landowner beforehand. No agreements are in place as of 13.05.2010. You can set your car GPS to 59 32' 35.65" N / 9 45' 29.11" E (end of the road). You can also find the location by searching for Lindumsetra on [Finn Kart](http://kart.finn.no/). The launch site is approximately 479 meters high and is occasionally used for soaring. The site is located to the north, towards Skollenborg. The Hof Paraglider Club is currently negotiating with landowners to secure access. To reach the site, take the road towards Heistadmoen from R-40. After about 50 meters, turn left onto a road that leads up to a cattle grid. This is a toll road. Park your vehicle near the cattle grid and proceed on foot along the road to the left. You will arrive at a field directly below the launch site. Follow the edge of the field to a tractor road that leads towards Lågendalen. This road eventually turns into a path marked with red and white ribbons, guiding you to the launch area. The launch itself is straightforward, situated on bare rock. Currently, the designated landing area is the field near the Shell station on R-40. During the summer, as long as the grass is mowed, landing here is manageable. H 557 is a paragliding site in Norway. It is regularly used and offers good soaring conditions with some potential for cross-country (XC) flights. The site record is 11.4 km. The takeoff is particularly nice for winds coming from the north. We have received approval from the landowner to use this launch site. When landing, please use the usual spot relative to flights from Rudskollen. Kindly exit the landing field via the shortest route and pack your wing at the edge of the field. Height: 230 meters above sea level, with a vertical drop of 110 meters. Description for Spring/Autumn (by HansCato): This site offers an exciting thermic alternative if the wind is too westerly at Grøtterud. Parking and wing packing are available at the clubhouse. The area is tight, with masts, trees, cables, and wires, which can cause line snags. Therefore, a minimum of PP3 with good wing control is essential. If the fields are lush, landing must be arranged with the farmer first, but it is doubtful he will give permission. Please inform me if you speak with him. Description for Winter (by Runar): Unfortunately, this may only be a temporary flying site. We were allowed to fly there when there were few people around. Always ask first at the lift cabin—the lift is operated by Botne Sports Club, Alpine Group. The track is narrow with cables everywhere. There is also a high-voltage line crossing 100 meters below the takeoff. This is considered a PP3 launch site. This site is rarely used for paragliding, primarily for soaring. The takeoff point is at an elevation of 298 meters. To reach it, drive to Lindum landfill, then walk up the forest road for a considerable distance. Eventually, take a path through a logging area to the right. The altitude difference and steepness are not ideal, making it unlikely to become a popular flying site. The sand bowl at Verket, located on the Hurum side of Svelvik, is an infrequently used paragliding site. Permission to fly here has been verbally granted by Cecilie Hagby, the manager of the sand pit, but only during evenings and weekends. Be aware that there might be industrial activity in the evenings, so always check for moving wheel loaders before taking off. If you are coming from Svelvik, there is a ferry to Verket (61 NOK for a car with two persons). If you are driving from Oslo or Lier, the fastest route is via Røyken-Hyggen-Klokkarstua towards the Svelvik ferry. The sand pit is located on the flat area before you reach the ferry. Located approximately 480 meters above sea level, this paragliding site is rarely used. There are only a few flight logs available from this location. The takeoff direction is West-Southwest, with the ideal wind direction being Southwest. The site is situated a few kilometers towards Kongsberg from Hvittingfoss. Look for a sign on the right side of the road indicating the direction towards Hajern. Note that the road is gated. Keep to the right all the way, except for the first road immediately after the gate. After a few kilometers, you will reach a small lake. When you arrive at the lake, the road continues to the left. After 100 meters, you will encounter another gate. Park your vehicle by the lake and follow the gated road for about 1.7 kilometers until you reach a small cabin area at the end of the road. From the southernmost cabin, there is a marked trail along the ridge heading south to the takeoff point. The takeoff is situated at an altitude of 410 meters above sea level. There is no agreement with landowners regarding landing zones. The hill is called Vardekollen. Kysthang ved Falkensten near Horten is a rarely used paragliding site with limited information available. The launch is a cliff start, not suitable for novice pilots (PP2), and is recommended for experienced pilots only. The site features a 2 km stretch with a 100 m vertical cliff face, making it a challenging flying location. It is important to arrange landing permission with the landowner for one of the fields below the launch site. Located in the Buskerud region of Norway, this paragliding site offers a launch height of 331 meters with a vertical drop of 242 meters. The site is occasionally used and is suitable for soaring. The launch directions are East and East-Northeast, and it is recommended for pilots with a PP2 rating and above. The landing zone is directly below the launch site. When the field is not harvested, land on the road in the middle of the field. This site is excellent for both ridge soaring and thermal flying. Despite its lower altitude, it is relatively easy to gain height and offers opportunities for enjoyable cross-country flights. To get there, drive from Kongsberg to Hvittingfoss center (Shell station), then turn left towards Tønsberg. At the top of the hill, you will see a sign for 'BOART LONGYEAR' on the left side. Park here. Currently, it is not possible to drive to the top (as of spring 2006) due to the lack of an agreement for a gate key. From the parking area, walk up the gravel road on the opposite side of the road. Follow the path, taking left turns at most junctions except the first one. Located in Vestfold, Norway, this paragliding site is managed by the Hof Paraglider Club and is situated just north of Hof center. To reach the site, drive towards Eidsfoss and turn left at the sign for 'Vestfold Hundepensjonat'. Continue to Lars Stokke's farm, the landowner. Keep right and drive past the barn. On the left side, you'll find a well-marked toll box where you pay 50 NOK per car for each trip up. The landowner also maintains the road in winter. The landing zone is in the field on the left after the toll box. Park at the bottom of the field along the road. Follow the road further up to the sign indicating the start. Ensure your parking does not obstruct other traffic and drive considerately. In autumn 2004, the club used an excavator and tractor to level and improve the launch area, which was then seeded with grass. By autumn 2005, the launch area had become a wide, grassy start suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders, with ample space for top landing. In spring 2007, a new launch area was created slightly to the left of the original one, using an excavator to level and move soil. This area was also seeded with grass. The original launch area was further improved to accommodate more paragliders. A grill area has also been added. Remember the altitude limit is 1067 meters above sea level (3500 feet). Located in the Buskerud region of Norway, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 407 meters. It is occasionally used and is known for thermal soaring, with the potential for small cross-country flights. The site record stands at 8.1 km. Height: 239 meters This site is rarely used but offers nice thermal soaring opportunities. Coordinates will be provided soon. To get there, drive to Klokkarstua and find the gas station at the roundabout. If you're coming from Drammen, take a right at the roundabout towards Verket/Svelvik. After passing the top of the hills and the oak grove on your left, and as you start descending towards Verket, turn right towards Helsetunet. This is located at the end of the road just past the football field. Drive all the way up to Helsetunet (a concrete building with a turnaround area) and keep left along the field, keeping the Helsetunet building on your right. Continue into the forest on a gravel road. Do not turn left at the first opportunity; instead, go straight until you reach a barrier. Park there and walk along the road. You need to walk to a small lake called Himmelvannet and pass it by a few hundred meters. Coordinates will be provided soon. For parking at the bottom, use Knivsvikveien, a side road to the right along the ridge you will be flying from. The side road is on the way down towards Holmsbu. It's convenient to park by the barrier to save 30 NOK. This is a new launch site on Hurumlandet, a coastal ridge above Holmsbu. The idea was to use it as a west-facing launch with potential for long ridge soaring into Drammensfjorden. However, west winds are rare or get disrupted by sea breezes. The site also captures southern winds very well. You can also launch in northwest winds, up to 300 degrees, but thermals are harder to catch, and ridge soaring is challenging since west-southwest winds are perpendicular to the launch. Landing is directly below the launch, about 220 meters down, but there are plenty of other options. The launch is steep, so it's suitable for pilots with at least a PP3 rating. You need wind or thermals coming in as there is no space to run. The site appears to be prepared for a possible cabin setup. Regardless, we cleared the heather, making it a fully usable launch. Svarstad is located in Lågendalen, along Rv40, between Larvik and Kongsberg. Follow the signs to the ski center from the main road. During the winter season, make sure to ask at the facility if it's okay to fly. There are several launch points, but the best one is a bit down in 'Mester'n,' which is to the left when you are at the T-bar lift. The 'Kuleløypa' slope, which is rarely groomed, is the southernmost slope (even further to the left) and works well with pure east wind. To reach the site, head north on Lågendalsveien from Kvelde, then turn towards Hvarnes. Follow the road approximately 3 km north towards the smooth rock face directly north. Lønskollen is located by highway 312 in Vivestad, between Hof and Andebu. To reach the launch site, you need to hike and climb up the slope in the gorge south of the peak. This hike takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the road around, which takes approximately 40 minutes. There are two launch sites, both cliff launches. The west launch is manageable when the wind is directly on. The ridge is short but effective. On good days, there is excellent thermic activity, with evening thermals in the summer. For landing, you can use the fields near the road southwest of the launch site. These fields are easily visible from the launch. Landing is on the grass field below the ridge, directly in front of the launch. It is advisable to familiarize yourself with the landing area to avoid power lines and cornfields.
