Hauptstartplatz Amisbühl, Beatenberg, Switzerland. This site is highly frequented and considered a top area for paragliding, with possibilities for cross-country (XC) flights. Access is convenient via the Postbus or through a paragliding school. Some enthusiasts claim you can fly here 300 days a year. As always, adhere strictly to the rules to avoid jeopardizing the site. The launch area is a gently sloping grassy hill, ideal for both paragliders and hang gliders. It features a large setup and launch space, allowing multiple gliders to be laid out simultaneously. The primary launch direction is south. Google Maps may show an older map with a tree line, but the launch site is obstacle-free. There are two marked runways, with one always reserved for commercial operators. If the site is crowded, you can move to the lower right (launch direction). Note that there are no restroom facilities behind the house, and top landing is not permitted. The launch site is located 150 meters northeast of the summit point on Amisbühl. The takeoff slope is slightly inclined and then becomes steeper, bordered by trees on both sides. After takeoff, you fly over the trees and then turn right towards the landing site at Lehn. The landing site at Lehn, with its cozy infrastructure, serves as a meeting point and shuttle base for Amisbühl. On weekends, the launch site is very popular with tandem pilots, making it quite busy. Located directly by Lake Thun and offering a stunning mountain panorama, the area also invites exploration flights to nearby hotspots. From there, walk to the launch site, which is a steep meadow in a forest clearing. Flight Options: You can fly short distances to Lake Brienz or head east to Meiringen. Valley hopping to the Oberland in the south is also attractive. Difficulty: In strong west winds, the area is in the lee, so the lower Luegisbrüggli site should be preferred. If the Föhn (south wind) reaches the valleys, flying should be avoided. When foam crowns form on the lake, it's usually time to land.
