Description
Pasamayo - Peru
Pasamayo features a two-way reef peak with hollow and powerful waves, breaking over a coral and rocky bottom mixed with sand. The spot is known for its long, fun walls and consistent surf, often 0.6 to 0.9 meters larger than Lima when conditions are right. It can handle sizable swells but is best avoided during extreme conditions.
Accessing Pasamayo is challenging, requiring a trek from the Pan American Highway, which is now primarily for commercial vehicles. Surfers typically park at toll plazas and hitch rides to the spot, about 20 minutes north of Ancon. The picturesque landscape of sand dunes and cliffs adds to the adventure, but be prepared for a strenuous walk back up. The waves work well at rising and falling tides, with optimal conditions when the wind blows from the southeast, east, or northeast. Be cautious of urchins and sharp rocks while enjoying this remote surf destination.
