Surf Jones Beach

Jones Beach - New York Jones Beach features a beach break with both right and left waves over a sandy bottom. The waves are known for being fast and fun, particularly around 1.8 to 2.4 meters (6-8 ft) during winter swells. This spot works well at all tides, with optimal conditions when the swell comes from the south or southeast and the wind from the north or northwest. The atmosphere at Jones Beach can be ultra crowded, especially during weekends and summer months. For a more enjoyable experience, surfers are advised to visit after lifeguards leave or early in the morning. The West End area is less crowded and offers great surfing without lifeguards. While localism can be an issue, the waves here are worth braving the crowds, especially in winter when conditions can get big and exciting. A town permit is required for parking at nearby TOBAY Beach, which is recommended for those seeking fewer families and less localism.
