Description

Cave Rock - Durban, South Africa Cave Rock features a right-breaking reef wave with a sandy bottom interspersed with rocks. This spot is renowned for its hollow, fast, and powerful waves, making it suitable for experienced big wave riders only. It works best at mid to high tide during rising conditions, particularly with swells from the southwest and winds from the north or northwest. Located just before Brighton Beach swimming pool, Cave Rock is easily accessible from Durban via the Bluff road. While the wave can deliver thrilling barrels, it has become faster and more sectioned since the storms of 2006. The atmosphere is vibrant yet competitive, attracting surfers who appreciate its challenging nature. Although it can get crowded during prime conditions, the spot remains relatively empty during the week. Surfers should remain vigilant of rips and undertows, as well as the unforgiving reef, to ensure a safe and enjoyable session.
