Big Left - Flinders
Big Left is a powerful left-hand reef break situated offshore, characterized by flat rocks on the bottom. It requires a reasonable swell to reach its full potential, typically firing at around 1.5 to 2 meters when beach breaks are at 1.5 to 1.8 meters. The wave is known for its consistency and is ideal for roundhouse cutbacks and floaters.
Accessed from the Flinders Golf Course, surfers can park at the west end and enjoy a short 10-minute walk to the beach. The paddle out can be challenging, taking about 15 minutes, but the absence of strong currents makes it manageable. The spot works well at all tides and is best on light north or northeast winds. While the left is popular, the right can also produce long walls, albeit less consistently. Be cautious of rips and rocks, and expect a laid-back atmosphere, though it can get crowded during prime conditions.
