There is a small launch site at the end of the road. Top landing is possible but the window of opportunity is quite small.
Access: Via Valle de Abdalajís to the reservoirs or through El Chorro past the reservoirs. A track leads from the road to the launch site.
When the north wind blows, flying is possible at Sierra Llana. The launch site is located below the long steep wall. Before launching, always check the upper wind conditions using the bushes at the edge of the steep wall. Even if the wind seems suitable at the launch site, the upper wind can be too strong for safe flying.
Don't worry about the vultures; they are accustomed to paragliders.
Start flying only in the late afternoon.
The locals refer to this flying area as 'Poniente,' in contrast to 'Levante' (South), which also has a well-accessible launch site.
Another site, 'La Capilla,' is also accessible by car via a sometimes steep track.
A significant advantage of the Valle de Abdalajís (VdA) flying area is that, unlike most flying areas in Spain, the launch sites can be reached on foot from the landing sites in 30-40 minutes if you don't have a driver and the top landing fails.
Flight:
From the launch site, keep to the left, and with the first turn, you usually gain altitude. With sufficient height, you can fly to the reservoir. The flight to La Capilla is successful with the north wind at your back, but the return journey is naturally more challenging due to the headwind.
Difficulty:
If the upper wind conditions are favorable, this is a pleasant flying area. The locals say that if you hear the mountain 'singing,' it's better to avoid flying. This also applies to the Levante and La Capilla launch sites.
There is a high-voltage power line between the launch and landing sites, but it is easy to fly over.
