Description
Snow King is currently closed due to insurance issues. Launches and landings from this site should not be attempted and would violate JHFFC policy.
Snow King stands at an elevation of 2371 meters with a height difference of 500 meters. It is occasionally used for paragliding, offering some thermal soaring and good cross-country potential. The summit chair lift has been replaced with a new gondola that opened in December 2021, but the site remains closed for now.
Conditions for flying include north winds and down slope valley winds from Yellowstone National Park. While Snow King is closed, Karns Meadow LZ remains open for kiting and as a landing zone for JHFFC pilots flying from other launches. A P4 rating is highly recommended for Karns Meadow.
JHFFC officers are actively working on fundraising, budgeting, and insurance options to reopen Snow King. Updates will be provided to members as progress is made.
