The Wolcott site in Colorado, USA, is an afternoon and evening paragliding location known for its strong thermals and glass-offs. The site features a long ridge ideal for soaring and thermalling, with potential for cross-country flights. The elevation is 2695 meters with a height difference of 570 meters. This site is regularly used and faces south-southwest to northwest, with west and southwest wind directions being the most favorable. It is rated for P2 pilots. The site record is 60.1 km. The launch area is at approximately 9000 feet MSL and is thermic and dynamic. The most favorable wind conditions are in the range of 5 to 15 mph up to 18,000 feet MSL. Winds above 25 to 30 mph are generally too strong for safe flying. The launch area has multiple windsocks and streamers to help pilots gauge wind conditions. The paragliding landing zone is located near an industrial storage facility and has a slight slope to the south, which can make landing tricky. The hang gliding landing zone is near a four-lane highway interchange and offers a large landing area. Both landing zones are on private property, and permission is required to access them. The site is close to the approach path for Eagle County Airport, with planes typically flying at a minimum altitude of 10,200 feet MSL over the area. Pilots are advised to contact the Eagle Tower before flying to inform them of their activities. For emergencies, call 911 and Vail Mountain Rescue.
