Description
The launch site at 1134 meters is rarely used. It is suitable for soaring and small cross-country flights. The takeoff direction is East. Avoid flying in northerly conditions due to lee effects. Landing options are available in Lauwil or Reigoldswil.
The Wasserfallen area is a popular recreational spot in the Basel region, well-connected and easily accessible by public transport. From Liestal, take Bus 70 to the 'Reigoldswil Dorfplatz' stop, followed by a 10-minute walk to the Wasserfallenbahn valley station, or continue with Bus 91 to Lauwil.
The flying area around Wasserfallen is managed by the Delta-/Paraclub Hohwacht. The club works closely with landowners, the municipalities of Lauwil and Reigoldswil, and various interest groups to ensure the enjoyment of the sport.
It is important not to land in tall grass. If unavoidable for safety reasons, leave the field and pack your glider outside. Access by car from Lauwil to Ulmethöhe is restricted to club members with a permit. This rule must be strictly followed. On Saturdays and Sundays, driving to Wasserfallen is prohibited. On weekdays, access towards Hohwacht is allowed only up to Holzerplatz (before Bürten farm). Club member delta pilots can organize group transports to the launch site on weekdays via Bürten.
Guest pilots are welcome if they adhere to the club's agreements. In case of uncertainty, they should contact the club board or members for assistance to avoid any issues.
