Description
At an elevation of 1094 meters, this paragliding site is rarely used. It offers soaring opportunities and the potential for cross-country flights. The site is suitable only for experienced pilots due to its specific conditions.

The site is flyable only with south or southwest winds and good thermals. Landings are directed towards Mümliswil on mowed meadows.
To reach the launch site, it's a 10-minute walk from the Wasserfallenbahn mountain station. Exit left, pass the rope park, and continue until you see the farm. Follow the road until you reach a field path that leads back to the launch site. The launch area is in a forest bay, slightly hilly, and requires good conditions to clear the forest edge.
The Wasserfallen area is a popular recreational spot near Basel, easily accessible by public transport. From Liestal, take Bus 70 to 'Reigoldswil Dorfplatz' and walk 10 minutes to the Wasserfallenbahn valley station, or continue with Bus 91 to Lauwil. The area is also great for family outings, with attractions like the Ruine Rifenstein, hiking and recreation areas, the Wasserfallen cave, biking, and scooter fun.
The Delta-/Paraclub Hohwacht maintains the flying area around Wasserfallen. They work closely with landowners, local communities, and various interest groups to ensure the sport can be enjoyed responsibly.
Please note:
- Do not land in high grass. If unavoidable, leave the meadow and pack your glider outside.
- Access by car from Lauwil to Ulmethöhe is restricted to club members with a permit.
- Driving is prohibited on Wasserfallen on weekends.
- On weekdays, access towards Hohwacht is allowed only up to Holzerplatz (before Bürten farm). Club member transport for delta pilots is permitted on weekdays via Bürten to the launch site.
- Guest pilots are welcome if they adhere to the agreements. If unsure, contact the club board or members for assistance.
