Paragliding Wasa Estella, BC
Best Conditions
Optimal Wind Direction
Optimal Speed (mph)
Description
Located at an elevation of 1813 meters with a height difference of 885 meters, this paragliding site in the Rockies is a popular choice for pilots. It offers regular thermalling conditions and excellent cross-country (XC) potential. Access is possible via 4x4 vehicles and even some 2WD vehicles during the autumn season. In winter, the site is lift-serviced.
The site is known for its XC potential, and you can reach out to experienced pilots like Will Gadd or Peter MacLaren for more information. It is also suitable for SIV (Simulation d'Incident en Vol) training. Top landing is possible but recommended only for expert pilots.
Flights in this region are notable. The South Columbia Trench in Canada has a site record of 60.2 km, with the launch point right above Lazy Lake, accessed via Eastella Mine Road. Ensure you get permission from the landowner, Lloyd Jones, before landing at the Teepee Mountain Ranch, which is the obvious landing zone (LZ). It is crucial to secure permission to avoid jeopardizing the LZ.
Another notable site in the South Columbia Trench has a record of 56.3 km.
