Description
Bygderkanken in Trysil, Norway, offers a regularly used paragliding site with excellent potential for cross-country (XC) flights. The site record is an impressive 202.2 km.
The launch area is open and spacious, though some spots are rocky. On good days, you can expect strong thermals. The launch is situated at a trigger point, which is crucial for catching thermals right away. The elevation drop to the lift house is about 150 meters. Without ridge lift, you must catch the thermal immediately or head towards Trysil center for the main landing.
Directions: From Elverum, drive towards Trysilfjellet-sør (before reaching Trysil center). Follow the signs to Skihytta. There is a toll road costing 30 NOK. After 2.8 km past the toll, turn right and drive up to the lift house. Take the last road to the left and park after about 100 meters at a turnaround spot. From there, a trail leads up to a small brown lift house just above, and the trail continues to the launch site on the hill to the north. The hike takes approximately 15 minutes.
Note: With a 4-wheel drive vehicle, you can drive up under the chairlifts to the top, making it similar to carrying gear to the south launch on Tronfjellet.
