Description

Located in the Piedmont region of Italy, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 1300 meters and a height difference of 740 meters. It's a medium-difficulty site, regularly used for soaring, with good potential for cross-country (XC) flights. Although it has more potential than other nearby takeoff points, it is less accessible, with shuttle services available only on weekends and holidays. The site record is an impressive 77.5 km, showcasing its XC potential. For more information, you can visit [Paragliding Earth](https://www.paraglidingearth.com/pgearth/index.php?site=14744). Shuttle services run on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from the landing zone, with a 10-minute walk to the takeoff point. If you prefer to drive, the road is navigable but only partially paved. It's advisable to get directions from local pilots, as there's a 10-minute walk from the parking area to the takeoff point. Landing options include Corio, which is accessible by turning right at the traffic light when coming from Ciriè, then left after 400 meters. Alternatively, top landing is moderately difficult and can be done from the south takeoff, extending towards the 'Antenna Mountain' west of Corio, at 600 meters above sea level. The best flying season in the Turin region is from late February to mid-June. However, visibility can sometimes be limited due to haze from the nearby Po Valley. XC possibilities include: - A 15 km valley circuit. - A 20 km route southwest to Val della Torre. - A 36 km route northeast to Cavallaria and Andrate. - A 16 km route northwest into Val Grande to Chialamberto. For the valley circuit, gain altitude in the thermal east of the takeoff point above the 'parking lot' and rocks. In the afternoon, thermals usually come from the small basin west of the takeoff. From here, you can easily head north along the ridge to the nearest mountain and takeoff point, Monte Soglio. This forms a 15 km circuit along the ridge over Cima dell'Angiolino and Bric Castello, returning to Testa Brusà or the landing zone. A base height of around 2000 meters is necessary. For the Corio to Val della Torre route, which is about 20 km, start by gaining altitude in the thermal near the takeoff, then head southwest towards the large quarry of Monte Giovetto. From there, cross the entrance of the Lanza Valley over Balangero. The Monte Corno on the other side offers reliable thermals. Follow the southwest ridge to Monte Lera, where ridge height is sufficient to reach the landing zone. Alternatively, you can extend the flight by returning to Corio. The Corio to Chialamberto (Ciavanis) route heads into the Alps. On good days with high base heights in spring, fly from Cima dell'Angiolino west into Val Grande. The mountain range leads above Chialamberto, where there's another flying site and a safe landing zone. Beyond this point, the valley narrows, leading to glacier-covered peaks with more turbulent thermals and stronger valley winds. It's advisable to join local pilots for safety. For the Corio to Santa Elisabetta route, head north. It's about 15 km to the next flying site near Cuorgne. First, fly to Monte Soglio, then northeast along the ridge to Roche San Martino. Gain maximum altitude here before crossing the Valle di Locana, where strong winds are common. On the other side, the Cappella Belice offers reliable thermals. The landing zone for Santa Elisabetta is south of Salto between the Orco River and the SS 460 road. The Corio to Cavallaria and Andrate route can be an extension of the Corio to Santa Elisabetta route, adding another 15 km. There are multiple routes, including one over the Monte Calvo and Cima di Bossola to Monte Betogne. Another scenic route follows the ridge from Punta di Quinseina to Betogne. Consider the valley wind in Valle Chiusella during the crossing. Monte Cavallaria offers a spectacular panorama over the Canavese plain. If no thermals are found on its south side, land safely at the landing zone along the road between Lessolo and Baio Dora. Otherwise, gain maximum altitude and fly to Andrate on the other side of the valley. When crossing the Aosta Valley, a slight southern arc is recommended, as the valley is wide, and thermals can be found over Borgofranco d'Ivrea. The landing zone in Andrate is in San Germano, between a football field to the west and a railway line to the east, south of a large substation (beware of power lines).
