Description
This paragliding site, located at an elevation of 2670 meters with a height difference of 300 meters, is occasionally used and is ideal for walk-and-fly enthusiasts. The site offers beautiful scenery and is particularly suited for evening ridge soaring.
To reach this location, you will need a 2WD vehicle for the drive-up, followed by a short hike to the launch point. The launch area faces west and features a ridge approximately 2 miles long, which is soarable in a west valley flow. The journey involves taking Provo Canyon to Highway 40, heading south on Strawberry Road, then east on Big Springs Road, which turns into Forest Road and leads up the hill. This area is popular for fishing and recreation, so local directions are generally well-known.
The site provides stunning views overlooking Strawberry Reservoir. However, it is not advisable to attempt flying the gap at the end of the ridge, as returning across it is not guaranteed.
This location is sometimes used by groups from the Point of the Mountain sites, so additional information from local paragliding schools can be helpful. The launch point is nearly 9000 feet MSL, and the ridge is about a mile long and 1000 feet high. The best flying conditions are typically in the afternoon, a few hours before sunset, especially on days when the winds aloft are light. The site is relatively secluded, with no crowds, ensuring a peaceful flying experience. However, be prepared for a late return home after your flying session.
