Paragliding Spion Kop

Spion Kop is Victoria's most popular coastal paragliding site, located near Aireys Inlet, Australia. The site is known for its excellent soaring conditions, although the flyable face can be short in light winds. With sufficient breeze, pilots can cross a large gap to fly to a larger hill to the west or navigate the low primary dunes towards the Aireys Inlet lighthouse. This is a restricted site, and only endorsed pilots are allowed to fly here. To gain endorsement, you must complete a site-specific induction with an authorized officer from the Dynasoarers club. Contact them at dynasoarers@gmail.com for more information. The site is situated at Fairhaven near Anglesea, accessible via Geelong. Turn right at Moggs Creek off the Great Ocean Road. The launch area is marked, and setup is only permitted within these designated zones. Landing is restricted to a maximum of four gliders on the beach at Mogg's Creek at any one time. If necessary, use a different section of the beach or the car park for de-rigging, provided it does not inconvenience the public. Top landings are prohibited. The beach can be crowded in summer, and high tide can reduce the available landing area. Always choose an empty stretch of beach for landing if possible. Be cautious of power lines above the bridge on your landing approach into Moggs Creek and along the highway east and west of the site. There are no safe landing areas between Eastern View and the Lorne township when flying west.
