Description
Green Point Flyers Association offers a unique paragliding experience along the coastal bluffs of Lake Michigan in Michigan, USA. This site features a 450-foot vertical sand cliff with minimal vegetation, providing smooth lift for paragliders. The primary launch direction is 270 degrees (west), with a southwest-facing ridge about a quarter-mile to the south.
The designated landing zone is on the Lake Michigan beach, south of the ridge, near the outlet of North Bar Lake into Lake Michigan. It is crucial to avoid landing in front of residences on the beach and crossing their property.
To reach the site, start from Traverse City and take M-72 to Empire. Turn right (north) on M-22 and continue to the junction of M-109 and M-22. Turn left (north) on M-109 and drive 1-2 miles to the entrance of 'Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive' (leading to the Sleeping Bear overlook). Turn left onto the scenic drive, which loops around to the Lake Michigan overlook and launch area. Be cautious, as this area attracts many spectators.
