The northeastern region of Bulgaria offers excellent cross-country flying opportunities. The city of Shumen provides three take-off sites suitable for north, east, south, and west winds. These take-off sites are located on a plateau at an elevation of about 200 meters. Flying is possible year-round, with a specific evening breeze that provides laminar flatland wind. Regular flights of over 100 km are common. The take-off sites are conveniently located near the city, with taxi access (~4 km) to most, except for the west wind site, which is 10-12 km away. Competitions are held here, though not as frequently as in Sopot.
Flights to the Black Sea, depending on wind conditions, are common and cover distances of 80-100 km to the east.
