Description
Located in Porto de Mós, Leiria, Portugal, this paragliding site offers a height of 606 meters with a height difference of approximately 390 meters. It is occasionally used for both hang gliding and paragliding, with opportunities for soaring and thermalling. Some cross-country flights are possible, and toplanding is an option.
The site record is 15.4 km, and it is situated near large antennas with radars.
Access to the site is via the EN 1 road towards Rio Maior, continuing to Alto da Serra. From there, take the road leading to the PNSAC Welcome Center. Continue for another 6 km and turn left when the road forks with a dirt path. Immediately turn left again and follow the path to the take-off area.
The take-off area benefits from two terraces left by abandoned quarries, which have been improved to create a spacious launch site. The slope is not very steep but provides good dynamic support right after the initial steps.
Landing is done on a cultivated field at the base of the slope. The field is quite long, making precision landing less problematic.
Retrieval takes about 15 minutes by off-road vehicle, as the landing area is a few hundred meters from the EN 1 road.
The flight is primarily thermodynamic. In the mid-afternoon during summer, the arrival of the sea breeze can make the flight very unstable. From this take-off, it is possible to traverse the entire western slope of Serra dos Candeeiros, with the highest gain recorded being about 500 meters above the take-off point.
