Description
Located in the Mirandela region of Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, this paragliding site offers a variety of flying experiences. The site is occasionally used and is known for small, regular flights, with one notable cross-country (XC) flight logged.
The takeoff point is situated at an altitude of 825 meters with a height difference of 285 meters. The site is oriented towards the east and is primarily used for thermal flights. In the late afternoon, the west/northwest takeoff points provide excellent thermodynamic conditions. This site is particularly suitable for XC flights, with takeoff options in nearly all directions.
Access to the takeoff area can be achieved by following the signs from Lamas de Orelhão near the BP gas station or by driving up from Franco to the west/northwest takeoff points via road and dirt tracks.
Landing can be technically challenging, especially in the summer when thermal activity is high. The south, southeast, and east landing zones require some skill due to the thermal conditions. The west/northwest landing zone offers an alternative landing direction.
The site record for the longest flight is 92.2 km. On a typical day, pilots can achieve significant distances, with the cloud base often exceeding 3000 meters.
