At an elevation of 1043 meters, this site is frequently used and offers good cross-country potential. It is excellent for hang gliding and good for paragliding. The serene northern flying area overlooks Balsthal.

There is no cable car available. The hike to the launch site takes about 5 minutes. You can drive from Laupersdorf to Schwengimatt, where the launch site is a steep meadow at the forest edge. Alternatively, you can reach it from Niederbipp in about 15 minutes by car. The ramp launch site is primarily reserved for hang gliders; it may not always be suitable during bise (northeast wind).
The Jura flying areas are characterized by small elevation differences. This site, with a little over 1000 meters, is not extremely high, but modern flight technology allows for significant achievements.
Preferred wind conditions are from the north. Thermals are available early in the year, making this site welcoming from the start of the season.
The launch is extremely flat until you reach the edge after about 300 meters. Pilots often land back in the lee of the forest. Please adhere to local rules to help preserve the flying area. On weekends and holidays, a club bus is available for transport to the launch site. On weekdays, group transports are recommended. The bus departs from the parking lot every hour (around 11:30, 12:30, etc.) near the nearest landing site. At Schwängimatt, cars can be parked at the restaurant, in the pit, and on both sides of the road to the pit. The road must remain clear.
